Flashback Friday

I thought it would be fun to see Andrew and Coleman's first haircuts today. We used the same girl for both boys in Winston Salem. Miss Kayla loved our boys, and they loved her.

Andrew's first haircut was the week he turned one. Andrew's hair really just needed shaping up, so she was able to use the scissors on him. He did a great job, but was very curious about the noise of the scissors in his ears. No tears from our big boy!

Coleman's first haircut was when he was eight months old. He had some long stragglers that hadn't fallen out, so Kayla decided to use the clippers to get a good, even cut. He did great as well, no tears, but made the funniest faces while she was using the clippers.

So when it was finished, he basically had his first buzz cut. He was too cute! You can tell he liked his new look. I don't know if a first haircut has ever fit a baby's personality as well as that buzz did Coleman Joe.

We have a Sitter!

Last week Jonathan started sitting on his own for a few seconds at a time. You can see the pictures were before his haircut. He's up to almost a minute now, as long as no one gets him off balance. He reaches for his toys and plays with them until he tips over. Seems like he's grown up a lot over the last week. What happened to that crazy-haired baby we used to have around here?!

First Haircut

Monday we got Jonathan's first haircut. We went to Whelchel's, where all the other yahoos get their hair cut. The shop was empty so we wouldn't have had to wait at all, except that Mr. Buddy was finishing his tomato sandwich for lunch in the back room. As soon as his lunch was over, he got to work cutting Jonathan's hair. I held Andrew and Coleman in my lap for their first haircuts, but Buddy thought it would be better if Jonathan sat on the little board and I just held onto him.

Just like his brothers, he did really well. He only cried a little, and I think it was just because Buddy covered his eyes and Jonathan didn't know what was going on. Other than that, he was a champ. We kept a few locks of the hair he came with for his baby book. We are really enjoying his new look. And fortunately, he doesn't look like a completely different baby the way I was afraid he would. I think Mr. Buddy got a big kick out of him. I'm sure he doesn't do many first haircuts. Here are some of the many pictures Brent made.

4th of July Fun

We had a fun 4th weekend this year. Saturday, we spent the day at Granny and Grandaddy's pool with the whole family. Uncle Chris, Aunt Margie, and the cousins were there too. The yahoos were so excited about seeing their cousins and really had a fun time.


Jonathan got to go swimming for the first time. He was a little unsure of it, but as long as he didn't get splashed, he did fine. Wouldn't say he loved it, but he didn't hate it either.

Coleman has improved a ton in swimming since the beginning of the summer. He can keep himself upright and use his arms and legs to swim. Both boys loved the diving board this year!

The cousins all ate lunch together for the first time. Jonathan was even able to sit with the "big kids" in his booster seat. We had hot dogs and hamburgers with everything that goes along with them. Yummy!

We left Granny and Grandaddy's after supper in time to make it to the Marina Bay fireworks. We missed the pool party and cookout, but I don't think we could have packed anything else into the day. We drove up to the lookout on the street of dreams and put out our chairs and then came home to wait. This was our first year to let the boys stay up for the show, and they loved it. We made some new friends while we were waiting on the show to start.

Jonathan waiting on the show. By the time it was over, he was pretty sure his parents had lost their mind by keeping him out so late. However, he didn't cry at all and watched a lot of the show. When we got home, he got in his pajamas and went straight to sleep without a peep.

This is the view from our seats. The word is out about our fireworks show. People bring boats from all over the lake and watch them from the water. Our pediatrician was out there somewhere. He lives in the next neighborhood over, and said they plan their weekend around the show. Andrew and Coleman were too funny thinking they kept seeing Dr. Johnson. They would wave and wave at the boats after they "found" him.

I didn't make pictures of the fireworks this year. I think everyone has probably seen fireworks before. However, it was an incredible show. Andrew and Coleman kept saying each firework was their favorite. I was really expecting to have to watch from the car once the loud explosions started, but everyone did great. Brent and I kept saying we couldn't believe our neighborhood put that big of a show on. The best part was that we had the boys in bed literally ten minutes after the show ended.

Sunday we had the best service at Lakewood. That afternoon we hung out at home. We ended the holiday weekend Monday night at home with a cookout. For dessert, the boys had red, white, and blue snowcones. They were a big hit!

Seven Months Old

Jonathan turned seven months old on Saturday! This has been a big month for him developmentally. He's now sitting unassisted for little bits at a time. He is also eating little "puffs" by himself. He babbles a lot as if he's telling us just the most important things. We love that he gives sweet hugs and very wet kisses now. He's also become quite the hair puller! Banging toys is a favorite activity, as is his exersaucer and watching his brothers. I feel like in the last few days he has grown up so much! Seriously, can we please slow down a little?!

Music Camp

This week, Andrew and I got to spend some time together at music camp. His camp was from 11-12 each day, so we had sitters come for Coleman and Jonathan. In a few weeks, Coleman will get to do his own camp. Here are some pictures from the week.

Monday morning with his very own keyboard! He was super excited to get to play all week. It is amazing what he learned in such a short time. I think we will be back for lessons in the future. He had so much fun, and Ms. Pam is a very talented and gifted teacher.

marching in a parade - The parents were being trees as they marched through the forest looking for Clarence. Clarence is Mother Goose's goose she rides around. He got lost this week and the children had to solve a mystery to find him before camp ended.

The Buggy Bagg

Jonathan has started riding in the buggy bagg now on those very rare occasions when I have to take the yahoos to the grocery store. These are a few pics of his first ride in the cart. He was too busy looking around to look at the picture. I think he was pretty surprised that there was so much to see!
